This basic tensioner spanner will fit most pre 1999 VW®/Audi® timing belt tensioners (gas or diesel). This is the exact tool needed for 1996-1997 Passat® TDI and 1997-1999.5 Jetta® TDI engines. Machined from 1 piece of solid alloy steel – no pins to rip out. Not recommended for Mk-IV (A4) chassis TDIs (Golf®,Jetta®,New Beetle®)that were introduced in mid 1999 - those models need our MN3333 tool due to the confined spaces involved.
